Hello! I’m Shira (they/them)!
I am a Boston-based photographer, dancer, theatre artist, and educator. I fell in love with photography at the age of 13 when I got a camera for my Bat Mitzvah, and I haven’t stopped since.
I am committed to centering communication and collaboration in my artistic practice and I love working with people to create photography experiences that are authentic, empowering, and joyful. It is truly an honor to capture human relationships, identities, transitions, events, and special moments.
As a queer, nonbinary, Jewish artist, I am especially excited about uplifting LGBTQ+ and Jewish communities through compassionate documentation.
I am dedicated to ensuring photography is accessible to all and am happy to offer sliding scale pricing as necessary. Please reach out to me with any questions and ideas– I am so excited to work with you!
“Shira is a fantastic photographer in both skill and connection. I felt safe and excited to follow their direction. Being in dialogue about what types of photos I wanted and what Shira was curious about led to a wonderful session filled with vibrant images!”
— Eliana Rubin (she/her)
“Taking my senior photos with Shira was the best experience I could have asked for. I felt comfortable right from the beginning. They were incredibly thoughtful and compassionate, making me feel confident throughout the process. My sister and mom came along, and Shira did a great job including them but also focusing the process on me and my ideas for the photo shoot. If I ever felt stumped or unsure, Shira jumped right in ready with suggestions.
As a transgender person, photographs often make me feel dysphoric. Not only did Shira make me feel like myself during the photo shoot, but the photos I received afterwards reflected exactly how I feel on the inside. I’m not sure how they managed that; they are truly an artist!
I highly recommend booking your next photo shoot with Shira!”
— Ren Birnholz (they/them)
“Shira is a delight to work with. They are organized, thoughtful, and creative. Their photos have turned out beautifully. Shira understands exactly what we are looking for as they capture each person, program, and event. We look forward to working with them more and more!”
— Joelle Schatz, Temple Beth Shalom of Needham
“Shira photographed a dance workshop for me. They were professional, reliable, and fun! I appreciated that they weren’t shy about jumping right in, and captured all aspects of the event: movement, story time, interactions between children and adults. The turnaround time was quick and we’ve used the photos to promote many future workshops.”
— Brenna Banister, Alive Dance Company
“Shira was able to capture the spirit of our school, blending into the background to create beautiful shots!”
— Ellen Dietrick, Temple Beth Shalom of Needham
